Jersey Shore couple happy to care for your pets

SHREWSBURY – Two months ago, Scott Brandle received a call that a person’s dog had hurt its leg and needed transportation to a veterinary hospital. The owner called every local pet care establishment in the Ocean County area, but had no luck with their predicament.

Finally, the owner reached Brandle’s River Run Pet Sitters.

“They called anyone and everyone, but could not find a service to transport their pet,” said Brandle. “Fortunately, the Little Silver Animal Hospital, who deals with us referred him to us. After we understood the details of the predicament, we made the decision to travel to the owner’s home, lifted the dog into our car and transport it directly to the vet where it received the proper attention.”

Into the Park!

We’re lucky to live in Monmouth County, don’t you think? We get the beach, the woods, the seasons … life IS good! As the cool weather approaches, we love getting back to lots of outdoor activities. If you’re new to the area or just looking for an alternative to your local park, check out the Monmouth County Park System for some ideas!

One of our favorites is Tatum Park in Middletown. With access from either Holland or Red Hill Roads, there’s more than six miles of trails to explore. For your four-legged friend, there’s opportunity to get muddy, frolic in a stream or two, and chase a variety of wildlife. The meadows are particularly beautiful with the fall foliage. Consider packing a picnic and enjoying the afternoon!

Hot Days, Cool Treats!

As the temperatures rise, it can be a challenge for pets and their people to stay cool. Of course, there’s always ice cream! While some dogs do just fine with their people’s sweet treat, why not try one of the suggestions below to avoid tummy troubles all together!

For the canine in your life, try Frosty Paws (available in vanilla or peanut butter) or Yoghund (available in apple cheddar or papaya peanut butter)! Found in most local grocer’s freezer sections, these treats come in packages of four for less than $5.00! It’s fun watching your pal get to the bottom of the cup!

Cats also love a cool treat: Try freezing ice-cube size portions of their favorite wet food! Or, drop a few ice cubes in their water dish!

Let’s Take the Dog Out in Monmouth County!

Let’s Take the Dog Out!

Summertime at the shore means one thing: OUTDOORS! In Monmouth County, there are a bunch of dog-friendly places for dogs and their people to enjoy together!

The off-leash dog park at Thompson Park in Lincroft is a great option for pups who like to run! There are “large dog” and “small dog” areas and water fountains when your pet needs a drink. Pros: great for dogs who like to play with others; open every day from 8am to dusk; easy waste disposal! Cons: not enough shade (so not good on a very hot day); can be a little muddy and buggy after a good rain 🙁 [continue reading…]

Thinking Spring! A Minty Treat For Your Special Pup

A Minty Treat recipe For Your Special Pup

With spring on the way, we couldn’t help but get excited about using some in-season ingredients in our dog’s goodies. The Daily Bark blog provided inspiration with one herb we sometimes neglect: mint. Read on for an easy treat idea that helps battle any problems with doggy breath!

  • unsalted soup or oyster crackers
  • fresh mint leaves
  • water, room temperature

Crush crackers and place in one dish. Finely chop the mint and place in another dish. You are looking for a ratio of about one part mint to three or four parts cracker but please experiment! Combine the cracker and mint then add enough water to have the ingredients stick; form into 1/4-inch balls. Place the balls onto wax paper and store in freezer. Once firm, the treats are ready for your pet to enjoy!

Hi! I’m Merlot and I am a 1 year old terrier mix who is ready to find a home to call my own. I am not your average gal as I am special…I am deaf!!!  I was lucky enough to find a special foster family who has experience with deaf dogs and they are teaching me hand signals so I can communicate with them without hearing them. I’m doing great as I have already learned to sit, stay, down, and come just from hand signals!!!

I am an active girl who loves to play, especially with my canine friends.  We love to play together and then we often crash together on the couch for some snuggle time. I love my human friends too and often try to climb in their lap and give them kisses! [continue reading…]
