Hi! I’m Merlot and I am a 1 year old terrier mix who is ready to find a home to call my own. I am not your average gal as I am special…I am deaf!!! I was lucky enough to find a special foster family who has experience with deaf dogs and they are teaching me hand signals so I can communicate with them without hearing them. I’m doing great as I have already learned to sit, stay, down, and come just from hand signals!!!
I am an active girl who loves to play, especially with my canine friends. We love to play together and then we often crash together on the couch for some snuggle time. I love my human friends too and often try to climb in their lap and give them kisses! [click to continue…]

Hi, there! I’m an affectionate loverboy!!!! Please pet me!! That’s the way to my heart, and how I’ll become your best friend in 2 seconds flat! I came to the Monmouth County SPCA because my owner passed away.
He was a great guy who rescued a bunch of cats that other people discarded at Monmouth Racetrack. I am forever grateful to that man and now, I’m so excited to find a loving forever home with people to love and call my very own. I’m a mellow and easygoing guy. I’m about 11 years young. Tips on keeping your pet healthy this season
We know you love your pets; we do, too! Each season, we take time to revisit a bunch of dos and don’ts on keeping our pets safe. We thought we’d pass these tips on …
- DON’T let pets near antifreeze. It bears repeating -the sweet scent attracts animals but it is toxic. Clean up spills immediately.
- DO keep walkways clear of ice and snow. Forgo the salt and try a pet-friendly ice-melt compound instead. Our faves: Safe Paw and Earth Friendly Products brand.
- Even pups with thick coats can develop frostbite. DON’T keep pets outdoors in frigid temps for extended periods.
- DO enjoy the season with your pet!
By being cautious and thoughtful this season, you and your pet can safely enjoy all the fun that winter has to offer!

Hi there! I am a gentle and lovable little lady. I am about 5 years young. I am a loyal companion and I just love to be petted! I’m a real sweetheart.
I originally came to the Monmouth County SPCA as part of a cruelty situation. I lived with several cats and dogs that were neglected and treated unkindly. A wonderful family adopted me from the shelter, but it didn’t work out because the home environment was a little too busy for me.
I am most comfortable in a quiet and calm setting, and the normal activity level of the family’s young children made me nervous. So this time around, I am looking for a quiet adult-only home. I would be content as the only kitty, but I would also be happy to live with another mellow feline friend. [click to continue…]

Hello! My name is Giraffe and I am 3 year old terrier mix. No one seems to know how I got my name… lol! My original owner had called me Jewel which works, since I am a beautiful jewel! I came to stay here at the Monmouth County SPCA after my last owner had to move and was not able to take any pets with her. I can be a shy girl at first so I am hoping to have a nice quiet home without too much chaos so I can unwind and relax. It might take me a little time to warm up you at first, but once I do I will be snuggling up to you for some attention and cuddle time. [click to continue…]
Plaque and tartar can accumulate on dog’s teeth and gums leading to serious gum disease. In order to prevent this you should brush your dog’s teeth and take him/her to routine dental cleanings with a veterinarian twice a year. Ideally, dog’s teeth should be brushed daily, however, this can be challenging if your dog is not used to the process. If you do not have the time to brush your dog’s teeth daily you can try to do it every other day or weekly depending on your schedule.
Tooth brushing should be initiated at a young age to allow your dog to become used to oral care. Before a toothbrush is introduced, the puppy or kitten should be given gum massages so they have the experience of the mouth being manipulated. It is important that you use toothpaste specially created for dogs because human toothpastes may cause stomach upset in dogs. [click to continue…]
