Cassidy – Cat Adoption – Monmouth County SPCA, NJ

Name:     Cassidy

Age:        5 years old

Sex:         Female

Breed:     DSH

Hi, everyone! My name is Cassidy and I am fun, friendly and front-declawed! I am about 5 years young. I came to the Monmouth County SPCA because my human mom had to move back in with her parents and one of them was allergic to me. So, here I am at the shelter waiting for my forever family to scoop me up and take me home!

I readily admit that I don’t do great with change. Losing my home and people and then ending up at an animal shelter was overwhelming for me. I was terrified and I kind of shut down. I did not want to be touched and I didn’t want to eat. I was so stressed and all I wanted to do was to be back in a loving home. [click to continue…]

Winter Safety for Pets

Tips on keeping your pet healthy this season

We know you love your pets; we do, too! Each season, we take time to revisit a bunch of dos and don’ts on keeping our pets safe. We thought we’d pass these tips on …

  • DON’T let pets near antifreeze. It bears repeating -the sweet scent attracts animals but it is toxic. Clean up spills immediately.
  • DO keep walkways clear of ice and snow. Forgo the salt and try a pet-friendly ice-melt compound instead. Our faves: Safe Paw and Earth Friendly Products brand.
  • Even pups with thick coats can develop frostbite. DON’T keep pets outdoors in frigid temps for extended periods.
  • DO enjoy the season with your pet!

By being cautious and thoughtful this season, you and your pet can safely enjoy all the fun that winter has to offer!

Hi there! My name is Little Foot. I’m a very gentle and lovable boy who loves other cats. I can be a bit timid and shy at first, but once I feel comfortable with you, I’m a big mush!! I’m an absolute sweetheart who just loves to be petted. I’m a muffin maker!!! I’m about 2 years young.

I came from a home with too many kitties for our owner to properly care for us all. I do get along great with other cats, and would love to live with a few in my forever home. [click to continue…]

Bijou – Cat Adoption – Monmouth County SPCA, NJ

Name:     Bijou

Age:        5 years old

Sex:        Female

Breed:    DSH

Hi there! I am a gentle and lovable little lady. I am about 5 years young. I am a loyal companion and I just love to be petted! I’m a real sweetheart.

I originally came to the Monmouth County SPCA as part of a cruelty situation. I lived with several cats and dogs that were neglected and treated unkindly. A wonderful family adopted me from the shelter, but it didn’t work out because the home environment was a little too busy for me.

I am most comfortable in a quiet and calm setting, and the normal activity level of the family’s young children made me nervous. So this time around, I am looking for a quiet adult-only home. I would be content as the only kitty, but I would also be happy to live with another mellow feline friend. [click to continue…]

5 Great Reasons to Adopt or Foster a Senior Pet

The plight of a senior animal in a rescue or shelter is heart wrenching.  An animal likely used to living in a home, with a family and a comfortable routine can become extremely depressed, confused, and listless when finding itself suddenly sequestered to a shelter, surrounded by unfamiliar people and animals.  The fate of many senior pets that have been relinquished is often a sad one, as well.  Finding adopters for older pets with less energy, a shorter lifespan, and a greater potential for health problems is next to impossible, often leading to the humane euthanasia of these trusty and loyal companions.  For someone who may be interested in adopting a senior pet, but still unsure whether it is the right decision, listed below are only a few reasons to consider taking home a golden aged dog or cat.

They have more love to give
Sure, puppies and kittens are great, but there is nothing that rivals the amount of love a rescued senior has to offer.  Seniors recognize better than any other dog or cat that the person saving them from the shelter deserves every ounce of love and affection they have to give.  If you want a constant companion and adoring best friend, consider an older pet.

They are better behaved
Unlike younger animals, senior pets are less likely to have been relinquished to a shelter for behavioral reasons.  Instead, seniors often come to shelters because their aging owners are no longer able to care for them, have moved into assisted living, or have even passed away.  Senior pets are likely already housebroken or litter-box trained and have good house manners and basic obedience skills.  [click to continue…]

Adele and Angelo – Cat Adoption – Monmouth County SPCA, NJ

Name:     Adele and Angelo

Ages:      4 and 2 1/2 years old

Sex:        Female and Male

Breed:     DSH

One of the best loves is that between a mommy and son. We are an adorable and fluffy example of that! We are Adele and Angelo, a sweet and snuggly pair of kitty cats. Adele is about 4 years old and Angelo is about 2 1/2 years young. Originally, we were found as a stray feline family. There were 3 kittens total, and the first 2 got adopted together. Angelo and Adele were also adopted together and continued that strong mother/son bond with the new  family.

Unfortunately, that home wasn’t forever. The adoptive family owners moved into an apartment that did not allow animals, so they returned us to the shelter to find another home. It’s upsetting to think you’ve found a forever home and then poof, it’s gone! It’s stressful to find yourself living again at an animal shelter. [click to continue…]

Hi! My name is Rosetta. I came to the Monmouth County SPCA from another shelter in NJ with my 5 adorable kittens, born 8/17/15. Now that my kittens have all been adopted, I am retiring from motherhood and looking forward to finding a loving forever home of my own! I am about 2 years young.
